At Earl Sterndale CE Primary School, Religious Education is a highly valued part of our curriculum. As a Church of England school, RE supports our vision of "Making Good Decisions Together" by encouraging children to explore beliefs, values and the ways in which faith and worldviews influence people's lives.

Through the study of Christianity and other religions and worldviews, pupils develop knowledge, understanding and respect for the diverse communities that make up modern Britain. Children are encouraged to ask thoughtful questions, reflect on their own experiences and consider a range of viewpoints in a safe and respectful environment. 

Our RE curriculum aims to help pupils:

• Develop knowledge and understanding of Christianity and other major world faiths.
• Explore questions about meaning, purpose, belonging and identity.
• Understand how religious beliefs influence the lives of individuals and communities.
• Reflect on their own beliefs, values and experiences.
• Develop respect, empathy and understanding for those whose beliefs may differ from their own.
• Express their ideas confidently using appropriate religious vocabulary. 

As a Church of England school, Christianity is taught as a living faith and is at the heart of our RE curriculum. Pupils also learn about other religions and worldviews, including Islam and Judaism, enabling them to develop an understanding of the rich diversity of beliefs found within our local, national and global communities. 

RE is taught through an enquiry-based approach, encouraging children to investigate significant questions, discuss ideas, evaluate different perspectives and reflect on their own responses. Learning is carefully sequenced so that knowledge and skills build progressively as pupils move through the school. 

Through Religious Education, we aim to nurture curious, respectful and reflective learners who are well prepared to engage positively with the diverse world around them.
