Religious Education - Class 2

In Class 2, our Religious Education (RE) curriculum follows the Derbyshire Agreed Syllabus (2025–2030), and is designed to help pupils explore the rich diversity of religions and world views in a thoughtful and inclusive way. RE is taught for a minimum of 1 hour per week through a range of discussions and relevant activities, both in groups and independently. Through exciting and challenging lessons, children learn to:

  • Understand and describe a range of beliefs, practices, and ways of life.
  • Ask and respond to big questions about meaning, identity, and values.
  • Develop respect and empathy for people of different faiths and beliefs.
  • Reflect on their own ideas and experiences in a safe and supportive environment.

Some of the ‘big questions’ we discuss in our RE lessons include:

  • How do festivals and worship show what matters to Muslims?
  • Why do people pray and what difference does it make?
  • What does it mean to live a good life?
  • How can we respect and understand beliefs that are different from our own?

Our approach promotes religious literacy, critical thinking, and creativity, enabling pupils to appreciate how beliefs shape communities and cultures. By engaging with stories, artefacts, visits, and discussions, children build knowledge and skills that prepare them for life in a diverse world.
