Personal, Social, Health & Economic Education (PSHE) - Class 2
We are proud to deliver PSHE through the Derbyshire PSHE Matters scheme, a comprehensive program designed to help children develop the knowledge, skills, and values they need to thrive in life. Our lessons cover key areas such as health and wellbeing, relationships, and living in the wider world, ensuring pupils feel confident, safe, and prepared for the future.
Through engaging activities and age-appropriate discussions, we encourage children to:
- Build emotional resilience and self-awareness
- Understand the importance of healthy lifestyles
- Develop respectful relationships and celebrate diversity
- Learn practical skills for responsible citizenship
By following the PSHE Matters framework, we provide a consistent, high-quality approach that supports every child’s personal development and wellbeing. PSHE is taught as a whole class on a 4-year rolling programme, which consists of 12 separate themes taught twice through different approaches and activities. This allows us to revisit important topics, and keep things fresh in children’s minds.
Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) is taught in Class 2, with children separated into year-groups and taught separately about age-appropriate topics. In Lower Key Stage 2 (Years 3 and 4), these sessions focus on building blocks like friendships, family relationships, and body safety, including learning about privacy and boundaries. Years 5 and 6 build on this learning, covering topics such as puberty and reproduction. Parents and Carers will receive a letter with further information the term before their child takes part in these lessons, and have the right to withdraw their child from lessons about certain topics should they wish.
