Curriculum - Class 1
Challenge, enjoyment and creativity lie at the centre of our curriculum. Well sequenced learning activities in each subject area, with a strong focus upon the acquisition of discrete phonics, early reading and maths skills enable each child to learn more and remember more every day. Our small class size gives us the opportunity to respond to individual interests, maintain flexible timetabling and make the most of our beautiful setting.
Our children's learning is linked to two distinct curriculums, the Early Years Curriculum for our Reception pupils, and the National Curriculum for our Key Stage 1 (Year 1 and 2) pupils. Across the week there will be times when these groups work separately, and occasions when they come together.
Reception marks the beginning of a child’s school journey, where the foundation for lifelong learning is built. Our goal is to ignite curiosity and expand young imaginations, ensuring that learning feels limitless. Through play, children start to explore their surroundings, make connections and form meaningful relationships. Every child deserves the best start in life, and we strive to provide a nurturing, positive, and enriching environment that allows each child to reach their potential and embrace learning as a lifelong journey.
In Year 1, children will be settled into classroom routines; we foster a love of learning through a supportive environment and an engaging curriculum. With structured activities, children deepen their understanding of the world around them, setting the stage for a joyful and fulfilling school experience.
By Year 2, children are encouraged to take greater ownership of their learning, embracing increased independence, resilience and responsibility. Our broad curriculum supports each child’s growth and helps them thrive, preparing them for their next steps into Class 2 and beyond.
